Life Insurance

Life insurance protects your loved ones from financial setbacks, should something happen to you or your spouse. It’s been calculated that non-employed spouses contribute $134,000 to the family’s economic well being!

Life Insurance is available in two forms:

Term Life Insurance (temporary): which comes in 5, 10, 20 and 30 year increments, and only provides protection if you die. There is no residual value in the policy once it expires.

However it’s most attractive feature is that it is much less expensive. This allows you to purchase the larger amounts you need to really protect your loved ones today! The downside is that 98% of Term Life Insurance policies are not in force when needed. What does that mean? Policy holders are much more likely to cancel, drop or live through the term of the policy than have it actually pay out to your heirs.

Permanent Life Insurance: This life insurance is with you until the end, as long as the premiums are paid, or there is enough cash value in its separate account to keep it in force. It comes in Whole Life (old fashioned) , Universal Whole Life (modern), and Variable Universal Life (the most recent variation) . The differences are in the way the treat the cash value!

Its most attractive feature is that it builds cash value that eventually could become sufficient to pay the premiums, or for use as additional savings. But the downside is it is considerably more expensive than Term Life Insurance. Any removal of money out of the policy’s cash value. through withdrawals or loans, while valuable as an option in emergencies, will come back to haunt you, unless they are repaid.

How much you need depends on your particular situation, and what you want to provide for! Call me at (650) 355-5396 so I can explain the differences and we can determine which would be the most appropriate for you!
